The Mini Dachshund. Snuggly, short, loyal AF, stinking cute and a bark that bites.
Doxies are the big little dog. They are long, low to the ground, and one of the smallest breads, but if you hear one barking behind closed doors, you’ll imagine something ferocious on the other side. Now, the bark isn’t what I love best about my dudes, but what I do love is that they have the personality of a big dog, yet want to snuggle tucked behind my knees on the couch.
I decided to get two mini dachshund back in 2017, and while the first couple months having two puppies running around my little apartment whom were not potty trained yet was not easy… it is still one of my best decisions yet. They are essentially our first born and we are absolutely obsessed. The timeframe from when I started thinking about getting a dog, to having two wiener dogs in my car driving back to Atlanta with me was probably a whopping 1 month.
At the time, Diego and I were still doing long distance and I was frequently making the 5 hour drive to Pensacola, so traveling with little dogs was much easier than large dogs. They have even flow probably 10 times! We bought a great over the shoulder carrier and a sling for flight travel.
A lot of people thought we were crazy for getting two dogs at the same time. I can not express how happy I am that they have each other. While they do sleep most of the day, they will get an occasional energy spurt, wrestling and playing together. They keep each other company and it just fits us so well.
Once you get a doxie, you’ll be hooked.
